La Vergne Police Department Announces National Seat Check Saturday FREE Car Seat Check Event
“Keeping children safe is a top priority for members of the La Vergne Police Department (LPD), and especially while riding in a vehicle”, said Chief Mike Walker. LPD has teamed up with La Vergne Fire Department (LFD) to conduct a FREE car seat safety check-up event.
Child safety seats installed and used correctly have been proven to save lives. National studies show three out of four kids (75%) are not as secure in vehicles as they should be, because their car seats are not being used correctly. “Tennessee has been a leader in Child Passenger Safety since passing the very first Child Passenger Restraint Law in 1982! It has often been said that, ‘Our children are our most precious cargo we can transport’, and we take the safety of our child passengers very seriously”, said Chief Walker.
LPD and LFD urge parents and guardians to reduce the risk of death and injury to their children by allowing a certified car seat technician to properly secure their child. Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to check car seats for proper installation and advise
parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles. Drive-up visits are welcome and we encourage parents or caregivers to have their children present during the fitting and installation of the car seat or booster seat.
“I started the Fire Service in 1986, and unfortunately the car seats for children in that time were seldom used or used correctly. In the last 31 years of service, I can attest to how many lives properly installed car seats have saved, and kept safe from injury. With evolving times comes evolving habits, and I encourage everyone to continue their evolvement, and use this free opportunity to have their child car seats properly inspected. Together we can keep our future leaders safe during transport, and have peace of mind that our precious cargo will arrive safe.” Rick McCormick, Fire Chief
