La Vergne prepares for Greenway Grand Opening

The City of La Vergne is excited to officially open the new Hurricane Creek Greenway on Saturday, August 25th.

The ribbon cutting will be at 9:00 a.m. Mayor Dennis Waldron will be speaking at the event, along with Parks Director A.C. Davis, Alderman and Greenway Advisory Committee Chairman Jason Cole, Aldermen Calvin Jones and Melisa Brown, Rep. Mike Sparks and Sen. Bill Ketron. Rep. Dawn White is no longer able to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony.

There will be giveaways for the first 500 people who come out between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to participate in our “Tour the Greenway 5K.” The free, untimed event will give residents an opportunity to check out the greenway trail. There are also special “3.1” decal stickers for anyone who completes the 5K.

As folks who walk the greenway reach the halfway point, they will find lots of family fun including lawn games, music, water and snacks.

“This greenway has been over a decade in the making,” said Mayor Dennis Waldron. “We can’t wait to officially open the path so that our residents can have a safe place to go for walks and spend more time outdoors.”
