Local Playgrounds Benefit from Fifth Annual Hometown Huddle

Last Friday, United Way volunteers from local companies participated in the fifth annual Hometown Huddle event, presented by First Baptist Murfreesboro (East Castle). This year, volunteers refurbished 11 school playgrounds and common areas in Rutherford and Cannon counties. Hometown Huddle was designed to bring awareness and impact to United Way’s priority issues of healthy eating, physical activity, and supporting healthy choices.

Participating schools included East Side Elementary, Rock Springs Elementary, Short Mountain Elementary, Christiana Elementary, Scales Elementary, Hobgood Elementary, Cedar Grove Elementary, David Youree Elementary, Thurman Francis Arts Academy, Holloway Harbor Daycare and Walter Hill Elementary.

“Working with our friends at the United Way during the Hometown Huddle is something we look forward to every year,” said Jay Sanders, MTEMC community relations coordinator. “The spirit behind the event speaks to what we are as a cooperative, committed to the communities we serve.”

Additional companies involved in this year’s event include:
Asurion
First Baptist Murfreesboro (East Castle)
HCA
