Made South announces chef lineup for Great Slider Showdown

Franklin-based event company, MADE SOUTH, released the first round of participating chefs and restaurants for the Great Slider Showdown on June 30, 2018, at The Factory in Franklin, Tennessee. The event will showcase 12 talented chefs from 5 different Southern states creating delicious sliders featuring a variety of proteins.

“We love sliders,” said MADE SOUTH founder, Chris Thomas. “They’re just so much fun to eat, so we wanted to create an event that used the slider to showcase some really talented Southern chefs for this inaugural event.”

Participating chefs and restaurants for The Great Slider Showdown are listed below:

Aaron Clemins of Kuchnia & Keller in Nashville, Tenn.
Alex Belew of Dallas & June in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
B.J. Lofback of Funk Seoul Brother in Franklin, Tenn.
Crystal McKone of Old Town Stock House in Guntersville, Ala.
Fred’s Meat & Bread in Atlanta, Ga.
Jason Greer of SideTrack in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Kevin Ashworth of 610 Magnolia in Louisville, Ky.
Matthew Statham of Saw’s Soul Kitchen in Birmingham, Ala.
Mitch McCamey of Neon Pig in Tupelo, Miss.
Nick Wright of The Village Idiot in Lexington, Ky.
Warren Weiss of Knox Mason in Knoxville, Tenn.

Each participating chef will be assigned a protein to use in the creation of their slider. Featured proteins will come from a variety of regional farms including Black Hawk Farms in Princeton, Ky., Southern Natural Farms in Knoxville, Tenn., and Springer Mountain Farms in Mount Airy, Ga., as well as the plant-based Impossible Burger.

In addition to sliders, guests at the event can also enjoy complimentary Mountain Valley Spring Water, cocktails created by Buffalo Trace and Eli Mason, and the TESLA Ride Experience.

Guest judges Alton Brown (Food Network), Maneet Chauhan (Chauhan Ale & Masala House, Tànsuǒ, and The Mockingbird), Robby Melvin (Southern Living) and Tricia Sereno (Buffalo Trace) will taste each slider and award the winning chef with a $3,000 cash prize courtesy of Goldens’ Cast Iron. The winning chef will also receive an automatic entry into the 2018 World Chef Challenge.

“The slider is perhaps the most American of all sandwich forms” said guest judge Alton Brown, “and one that has achieved near cult status in the culinary world, especially here in the South where it’s often just too damn hot to eat a full sized burger. I’m happy to be spending an afternoon in Franklin consuming all the sliders I can eat. That is what they promised me, right?”

The Great Slider Showdown is being presented by Mountain Valley Spring Water, Buffalo Trace Distillery, Goldens’ Cast Iron, Eli Mason Cocktail Mixers, Visit Franklin, Creation Gardens, Southern Natural Farms, and Duke’s Mayonnaise.
