Man arrested for arson, accused of setting fire outside business

A man is facing arson charges after intentionally setting a fire outside a business on Medical Center Pkwy. in Murfreesboro, Tuesday, March 10.

Daniel Smith, 46, was detained and questioned by Murfreesboro Police Department officers and Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) personnel about the fire. Fire and Life Safety Specialist Shan Womack charged Smith with setting fire to personal property, a Class E felony.

MFRD Ladder 7 was dispatched to a fire behind Middle Tennessee Plastic Surgery, 820 Medical Center Pkwy. around 7:47 p.m. Tues. evening.

Upon arrival firefighters saw two Cypress trees and leaves on fire behind the business. The fire was quickly extinguished. An awning on the business sustained minor fire damage.

Smith is still being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
