Mayor Cole Proclaims October 4-10 to be Fire Prevention Week in La Vergne
Mayor Jason Cole has declared October 4-10, 2020 to be “Fire Prevention Week” in La Vergne. The proclamation was presented to Chief Ronny Beasley at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen workshop on October 1.
The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years and this year is campaigning to “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!” The campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
“Our fire department does an amazing job of protecting and educating our community,” says Mayor Jason Cole. “I’m proud of the work that they do and the services they provide to our residents.”
The La Vergne Fire Rescue Department has been working to provide several virtual Fire Prevention Month videos and activities for residents and their families, including a virtual tour of Fire Station 2. On Saturday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. the Public Library will be hosting a special outdoor storytime with Fire Marshal Curtis Brinkley, who will be accompanied by a fire engine for kids to check out and learn more about being a fire fighter.
“It’s so important for everyone to be as safe as possible while working in the kitchen,” says Fire Chief Beasley. “Cooking fires are the most common reason we get called to a home and are usually easily preventable.”
