Mayor Ketron Announces Wagener as New Rutherford County Solid Waste Director

Bishop Wagener will serve as Rutherford County’s new Solid Waste Director, Mayor Bill Ketron announced earlier this week.

Wagener will assume the position effective Monday, November 22, filling the vacancy left by former Director Mac Nolen who now serves as the Solid Waste Director in Williamson County.

A resident of Rutherford County since 1985, Wagener has over 25 years of commercial and residential contracting experience. In 2018, he obtained a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental Geosystems from Middle Tennessee State University.

For the past three years, Wagener has worked for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Division of Solid Waste Management in the Materials Management Programs.

While at TDEC, he provided technical assistance to local county governments, including Rutherford, to improve waste reduction and recycling capabilities.

“I am dedicated to leading Rutherford County toward a future that includes safe, friendly, and quality disposal, while maximizing waste reduction and recycling options for my neighbors,” said Wagener.

“We are truly excited to have Bishop come on board to expand and enhance the County’s waste reduction and solid waste management efforts,” remarked Mayor Ketron. “We are confident that he will help the department become more progressive, creating a better pathway for the future of waste management in our community.”
