Mayor Shane McFarland Recognizes HR Employee Joe Martin with STARS Award
Mayor Shane McFarland honored Training and Development Manager Joe Martin as a STAR recipient during the Aug. 22, 2024, City Council meeting after fellow employees recognized Martin for innovation and enhancing operational efficiency along with exceptional customer service.
When it comes to his computer expertise, work ethic, and kindness to fellow co-workers, he’s no average Joe. Here are excerpts from nominations provided to the Human Resources Department from fellow City employees:
“Joe consistently exemplifies the ideal employee in our organization. . . .His dedication has not only saved significant time and money for the City but has also greatly enhanced our operational efficiency. Joe consistently goes above and beyond to support his colleagues. . . . One of Joe’s remarkable skills is his ability to innovate and create efficient solutions. He has helped in programs in creating shortcuts that have streamlined processes in our office, significantly speeding up workflow. Moreover, Joe has demonstrated exceptional customer service by effectively communicating with non-English speakers who have sought assistance, showing respect and care in every interaction. In summary, Joe Martin exemplifies outstanding internal customer service and embodies the spirit of teamwork and dedication. We are incredibly fortunate to have him as part of our team . . .”
“Joe is an outstanding colleague who consistently goes above and beyond to support everyone in our department and across all departments. His willingness to help others, regardless of the task or challenge, is truly commendable. Joe is our go-to person for any computer-related issues. His expertise and knowledge in this area are invaluable. . . .Joe’s ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems quickly and efficiently ensures that our operations run smoothly, minimizing downtime and maintaining productivity. Beyond his technical skills, Joe is known for his positive attitude and willingness to assist others. . . .Whether it’s staying late to solve a problem or taking the time to teach a colleague a new skill, Joe’s dedication to helping others never wavers.”
The City of Murfreesboro hired Martin as the Training and Development Manager in January 2022.
The STARS Service Excellence program recognizes outstanding employees who embody the city’s standards for service excellence and exemplify the city’s core service values. The purpose of the STARS award is to recognize and reward those employees who go beyond their normal job duties in providing outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
STARS stands for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.” STARS are examples of representing the City in a positive light, exhibiting the core values, and creating a better quality of life for citizens.
The STARS nominations are reviewed each month by a STARS committee consisting of City employees who then vote for the nominees.
