MFRD Quickly Douse Dump Truck Fire on I-24; Driver Walks Away From Crash

The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 at Exit 76 were closed for hours as Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to a dump truck fire Thursday morning.

The dump truck fire was reported at 4:26 a.m. near the Medical Center Pkwy./Fortress Blvd. underpass.

Firefighters arrived to find the dump truck on its side and on fire. Fire crews used approximately 3,000 gallons of water to put out the blaze.

The driver was medically evaluated by personnel with Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services and released on the scene.

MFRD remained on the scene until the dump truck could be towed away. There were concerns that the fire could reignite after hydraulic lines were cut.

The crash is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Fire crews with Engine 9, Ladder 4, Rescue 4, Engine 5, Engine 7, Engine 9, Ladder 11, Rescue 11, Battalion Chief 2, and Safety 1 and 2 responded to the fire.
