MFRD and RCFRD Battle 10-15 acre Wheat Field Fire

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) crews were dispatched to a brush fire located in a field at Kingdom Drive and Veterans Parkway around 2:50 Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, crews discovered around an acre of wheat on fire in the field. The wind caused the fire to spread rapidly, and Rutherford County Fire Rescue Department crews quickly responded to assist MFRD with the blaze.

The fire has been extinguished at this time and crews are wetting down the “remaining radius” according to MFRD Battalion Chief Tim Swann. Approximately 10-15 acres of the field were damaged.

There was no loss of property except for the wheat. One MFRD firefighter was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
