MFRD Responds to House Fire at 2930 Cherry Blossom Lane
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department responded to a house fire at 2930 Cherry Blossom Lane just before 8:00 Friday night.
District 7 and Ladder 6 were the first to arrive and discovered heavy fire in the chimney of the two-story home. Fortunately, all residents were out safely prior to MFRD arrival.
According to Acting Battalion Chief Terry Smith, Ladder 7 and Rescue 7’s crews quickly made entry to the structure and were able to get the fire in the chimney knocked down. Ladder 8 and Engine 4 were called to the scene to provide manpower.
Firefighters then found that the fire had made its way into the attic and flames were coming through the roof. Smith said the fire place, chimney, and chase all received extensive damage, as well as a large portion of the second floor due to trying to gain access to the fire in the attic.
Crews are still on scene conducting salvage and overhaul in an effort to protect items on the first floor.
It is unknown at this time what caused the fire, but it appears to have started in the fire place. Smith said the Fire Marshal’s Office will be called to conduct an investigation.
A total of five residents (two adults and three children) were displaced, but did not require assistance from the American Red Cross.
When asked about the obstacles firefighters faced in the cold temperatures, Smith said the scene was definitely slippery due to the ice, but it did not slow operations.
More information will be released on the fire as it becomes available.
