MFRD Welcomes Three Fire & Life Safety Specialists

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department recently promoted three personnel to the new position of “Fire & Life Safety Specialist.”

These positions were created to assist the Fire Marshal and Assistant Fire Marshals with fire inspections, determining the cause of fires, and coordinating the department’s community risk reduction program.

Dwajuan Howse, Eugene Todd, and Shandreah Womack were selected after interviewing with a panel of Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) members.

“We are excited to add these ‘family members’ to the Admin team,” said Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks. “I am confident that they will do an excellent job in these newly created positions and will not only be a great benefit to our department, but also to our community!”

The three will start in their new roles on Monday, January 8.

Meet the Team:

Dwajuan Howse

Dwajuan Howse started his career with MFRD as a Firefighter in April 1999. He was promoted to Driver in 2004. He recently received his Associates of Science degree in Fire Science from Volunteer State Community College. He will continue to work on obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree while fulfilling all the requirements of his new job description.

“I am looking forward to learning and working in a completely different aspect of the fire service. I’m excited and nervous at the same time for this new adventure,” said Howse. “I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

Howse is married to Jennifer and has two daughters Mackenzie and Kayla. The family has three dogs, Colbie (a malti-poo), and Jorge and Smokie, great danes. During his time off, Howse enjoys hunting, fishing, traveling, and playing golf.

Eugene Todd

Eugene Todd has been with MFRD since June 1990. He was promoted to Driver in 2001. Todd is certified as Fire Inspector I. He has served on the department’s Rules and Policy Committee and the city-wide Wellness Committee.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to learn all aspects of this new position and the Community Risk Reduction Division. I’m also eager to begin working with the Murfreesboro business community and assisting them in making their businesses safe for their employees and anyone else who might enter the building,” said Todd. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be promoted to this position and excited about all of the new challenges of the job.”

He and wife Debra have a daughter, Anna Turner, who is pregnant with their first grandchild, a boy!

When he’s off duty, Todd enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and kayaking.

Shandreah Womack

Shandreah Womack started with MFRD as a Firefighter in March 2004. She is an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) with plans to take her advanced certification (A-EMT) test in the near future. She is a Hazardous Materials, Rope, and Confined Space Technician. She has also obtained Officer II and Instructor I and serves as a proxy for the department’s Child Safety Seat Program.

Womack has served on the Fire Awards and Recognition, Yearbook, and Citizens Fire Academy committees and is a member of the MFRD Special Events Team.

“I am beyond excited about my new position within this amazing fire department. I have been a Firefighter for 14 years and though I absolutely love it, I am ready to begin a new adventure,” said Womack. “I look forward to broadening my knowledge in different aspects of the fire service, and in particular, fire investigation and programs within our schools such as the STEM partnership.” She adds, “I am honored and humbled to be selected for this new position in the department,” and jokes, “it’s going to be a lot different than jumping off of the pumper with full force ahead to be the first-in on a structure fire,” but says she is more than ready.

Womack has a daughter, Addie. She coaches two softball teams, Algood Middle School and a 12-U travel team “Firestorm.” Though softball takes up a lot of her off time, she still finds time to pursue her other passion, photography. Womack enjoys watching Addie play softball and basketball and hanging out with her family…she is also a Tennessee Volunteers fan and loves attending their sporting events!
