MPD Investigates Fatal Hit and Run Bicycle-Vehicle Collision

The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is actively investigating a hit and run fatal collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist that occurred on Thursday, July 18.

The collision took place in the 2900 block of S. Rutherford Blvd. around 5:30 p.m. yesterday.

The driver involved in the crash, 41-year-old Isaiah Isom, of Murfreesboro, initially fled the scene. Isom was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave at the time of the collision.

The identity of the 30-year-old man riding the bike is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

Shortly after the incident, two women drove the Buick Enclave back to the scene, with one of them falsely claiming she was the one driving. That story was later determined to be fabricated. Investigators visited Isom at his home. He initially denied being the driver, but he later admitted to his involvement.

Isom has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene involving death/serious bodily injury and driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

The two women who conspired to mislead investigators were interviewed. Their involvement will be presented to the Rutherford County District Attorney General’s Office and a Rutherford County Grand Jury for further review.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by FACT investigators.

If you witnessed the crash, contact Officer Corey Smelser by email [email protected].

Isom remains in jail at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $8,000 bond. His court date is set for August 19 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
