The second MTSU Jazz Artist Series concert is set for Feb. 6 on campus featuring vocalist Sandra Dudley, who will perform with members of MTSU Combo 1.

The concert will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Hinton Music Hall of the Wright Music Building at 1439 Faulkinberry Drive. A parking map is available at https://bit.ly/MTSUParking.

The concert will feature members of the top student and graduate combo in the jazz studies program, including Dylan Kubilus (alto saxophone), Daniel Kuk (piano), Ethan Assad (bass) and Miles Damaso (drums). The concert will also include a guest appearance by faculty jazz saxophonist Don Aliquo.

“The evening concert will showcase the dynamic performing of one of Nashville’s finest singers,” said Director of Jazz Studies Jamey Simmons.

Tickets are $10 for the public and free for MTSU students, faculty and staff. Discounts are available for area band students and educators.

“The exciting thing for us as teachers is to showcase musicians who have a long-term commitment to the music, showing future generations the creative possibilities of jazz,” said Simmons.

About Sandra Dudley

Nashville-based Sandra Dudley is a versatile singer who has entertained audiences for nearly 40 years. An educator and performer, Dudley has been an assistant professor of commercial voice at Belmont University for 30 years.

Dudley has sung with many jazz ensembles, including the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, the Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, the Tennessee Jazz Orchestra, the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, and the Nashville and Memphis Symphonies.

She has performed with Fred Hersch, Marvin Stamm, Dave Catney, Bobby Militello, Barney Kessel, her husband, Bruce Dudley, and many others.

She was among the winners of JAZZIZ Magazine’s Vocals on Fire Songwriting Competition with her original song, “Billie,” co-written by her husband. The song appeared on a compilation project called “The Voices of the New Jazz Generation.”

The MTSU program will feature a diverse selection of jazz songs arranged by Bruce Dudley.

Sandra Dudley will also conduct a free and open masterclass and clinic on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 4:20 p.m. in Saunders Fine Arts Room 101 on the MTSU campus.

Upcoming MTSU Illinois Jacquet Jazz Festival

Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 29, for the MTSU Illinois Jacquet Jazz Festival. It includes a full day featuring performances of school ensembles and MTSU groups, jam sessions, educational sessions and the 5:15 p.m. headline concert featuring dynamic Latin jazz saxophonist Miguel Zenon.

Dedicated to the memory of tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, the festival seeks to educate, inspire and entertain audiences in the middle Tennessee area.
