Middle Tennessee Electric Bringing Good Energy

Nashville Comes to MTSU as Students Celebrate “Broadway in the Boro”

Downtown Nashville’s signature neon-lit energy made its way to Middle Tennessee State University as students filled the Student Union Ballroom for Broadway in the Boro, an event created to bring the spirit of Music City directly to campus.

The lively evening featured line dancing, live music, cowboy-hat decorating, and classic Southern comfort food, giving students a full Broadway-style experience without ever leaving Murfreesboro.

“We wanted to give the students a little bit of that downtown Broadway experience without having to pay for parking because we all know how expensive parking in Nashville is,” an event organizer explained. “So we came up with the idea to bring it here and do everything minus the alcohol.”

The Student Union team spent months planning the event, working behind the scenes to recreate the atmosphere of Nashville’s iconic entertainment district. Their efforts paid off as students packed the ballroom eager to dive into the music and festivities.

For many attendees, Broadway in the Boro provided the perfect blend of entertainment and convenience.

“I wanted to come tonight because I love dancing, I love live music, and I love Broadway, but I don’t like the hassle of going downtown,” one student said. “So this is perfect for me.”

On a campus where many students commute, events like this are essential for strengthening community connections. Organizers emphasized the importance of giving students compelling reasons to stay engaged outside of class.

“Especially with a commuter campus, it’s hard to get kids to come out to things,” another organizer noted. “You really have to push events like this to build that sense of community. It’s a great way to meet new friends.”

Looking ahead, the team hopes the success of Broadway in the Boro will turn it into a campus tradition.

“I hope we make this a yearly thing. Something people remember and want to come back to because they had so much fun.”
