New Dedicated Orthopedic Surgery Center Coming to Murfreesboro
Westlawn Surgery Center to Bring a Modern and Convenient Surgical Option to Patients
Ascension Saint Thomas (AST), through a long-standing clinical partnership with United Surgical Partners International (USPI) and Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance (TOA), continues its investment in patient care in Rutherford County by developing Westlawn Surgery Center, a proposed 13,000 square foot ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in Murfreesboro’s Westlawn community. This dedicated orthopedic ASC is the first of its kind in Rutherford County with construction planning expected to begin this month.
Situated on the 3rd floor inside TOA’s new medical office building at the west corner of Veterans Parkway and Shores Road, the new Westlawn ASC will offer two specialties: orthopedics and pain management. Patients will experience a single location for all outpatient orthopedic needs, including physician office visits, orthopedic-specific urgent care, imaging studies, outpatient surgery, and physical rehabilitation. The medical office building is conveniently located next to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Westlawn, the neighborhood hospital that opened March 2023, offering 24/7 physician staffed emergency care and inpatient hospitalization.
“By strategically shifting a variety of procedures from a hospital setting to an ambulatory surgery center, TOA, USPI, and Ascension Saint Thomas are creating lower-cost surgical options for the community we are privileged to serve,” said Gordon Ferguson, President and CEO, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford. “The Westlawn ASC is an important example of our ongoing commitment to making quality care accessible, convenient and more affordable.”
“TOA is excited to expand our value-based care surgical options in Murfreesboro and surrounding communities,” said Rob Simmons, Chief Executive Officer, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance. “Our proven history of partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas and USPI in this market will allow us to expedite this project and offer these services for many years to come.”
“The development of the Westlawn ASC reinforces our collective commitment to providing access to exceptional patient-centered care,” said W. Blake Garside, Jr., MD, Orthopaedic Surgeon and President of Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance. “The new facility has been designed specifically for the unique needs of orthopedic patients which will transform the way we deliver surgical care to the Westlawn community and surrounding areas.”
“USPI is proud to continue to expand our partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas and Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance to increase patient access to high quality ambulatory surgery care,” said Kristen O’Connor, Market President, USPI. “We are excited to build upon the track-record of our partnership to add Westlawn Surgery Center in Murfreesboro to a high performing ACS network.”
The construction project is expected to take approximately 14 months to complete.
