Oaklands Mansion to Offer Wetlands and Gardens Tour April 8, 2017

Join Oaklands Mansion’s Curator and Master Gardener, Connor Moss, for a unique tour of Oaklands Park. Mark your calendars now to spend Saturday, April 8th exploring the former grounds of this historic plantation, now open as a public park.

Oaklands Mansion is nestled in Oaklands Park, a native tree arboretum and natural wetlands, which includes Maney Spring as well as heritage and native gardens. The grounds tour will include an overview of the arboretum, wetlands and gardens. These three components of Oaklands Park provide a unique setting to learn about uses of plants, both in history and in modern times.

“Oaklands Park is downtown Murfreesboro’s largest natural wetland area and is a rarity for such a densely populated community,” says Connor Moss, Curator and Master Gardener at Oaklands Mansion. “The park provides a fascinating study area for both its wildlife and plant-life, and April is the best time to see them beginning to emerge.”

Admission for the grounds tour is $15 per person, and all proceeds will benefit the maintenance and preservation of the grounds. The tour will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Oaklands Mansion’s Visitors Center. Reservations are required as space is limited. For tickets, please call (615) 893-0022. Please be aware that the entirety of the grounds tour will take place outside and requires extensive walking.

If you would like to tour the mansion before the wetlands tour, please arrive at Oaklands Visitors Center by 12:30 p.m. Tours begin on the hour and a short video is offered on the half hour. General admission to the mansion is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, military and AAA, $6 for children and students, call for group rates. For more information visit www.OaklandsMansion.org.
