Police Investigating Fortress Blvd. Fatal Crash; Second Person Has Died

The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left two people dead and another driver injured on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

A disabled 68-year-old passenger in a 2019 Dodge Caravan was flown to TriStar Skyline for treatment. He died from his injuries a short time later.

A 37-year-old male driver of a 2011 GMC Sierra was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment; however, he also passed away from his injuries.

Both victims’ names are being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The fatal crash occurred at the entrance of the Cross Creek of Murfreesboro Apartments, 490 Fortress Blvd. at 5:01 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators closed Fortress Blvd. from Hwy 96 to Blaze Dr. for hours while the FACT investigated the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 62-year-old female was traveling southbound on Fortress. According to investigators, she failed to maintain the lane of travel, crossing over into the northbound lane and colliding with the GMC Sierra. The driver is listed in stable condition.

Charges against the driver could be pending, according to FACT investigators.

The crash is still under investigation.
