Registration Open for Sheriff’s Citizens Academy

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the next Sheriff’s Citizens Academy.
Residents will practice traffic stop scenarios and learn about the SWAT team during the free Sheriff’s Citizens Academy.

Community residents will meet Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh and engage with deputies on topics such as the patrol division, training, K9s, mounted patrol, mental health, investigations and narcotics, said Sgt. Gary Herron.

Residents will have the opportunity to participate in a ride-a-long for a shift and tour the adult detention center and the Justice Center.

“This is an opportunity to learn about all the services and the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office,” Herron said.

The 10-week class will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday beginning Aug. 23 at the Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro.

For more information about the class or to register, please contact Herron at 615-904-3019 or email him at [email protected].
