Robert “Bob” Dillingham Sharrock obituary
Robert “Bob” Dillingham Sharrock, age 87, of Smyrna, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on January 9, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Private family services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 under the direction of Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. He was born on February 17, 1933 in Ferndale, Michigan, to the late Robert “Rob” Sharrock and Helen Lingo Sharrock. He graduated from Clarkston High School, Clarkston, MI where he met his wife Elaine Porritt Sharrock who survives. While in school, he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was also on the track team and held several school track records for years.
Growing up and also after he married, his vacations were spent in Normandy, TN where his father was born and raised. He attended MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN for 1 year and was a member of the football team. He also attended Eastern Michigan State University in Ypsilanti, MI. He joined the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. They returned to Michigan after the birth of their first child and had four more children. He held several civil engineering positions and moved his family to Smyrna in 1971. He was employed at Firestone/Bridgestone in LaVergne during the building process and when he retired, he was in the quality control department. Bob and Elaine attended Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Bob was widely known for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine Porritt Sharrock and five children, Susan “Sue” Quick, Doak Sharrock, Peggy (Kenneth) Thomas, Nancy (Arthur) Mullis and Coy Sharrock. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bryan & Christi Thomas (Bryson, Braye, & Elaina Thomas), Mark Thomas, Kevin & Olivia Thomas (Hunter & soon to be born Hadleigh Thomas), all of Smyrna; Lisa Mullis, Amy Mullis (Knox & Berkleigh Rhodes) Anna & Mark Reeves (Ayla, Ledger and soon to be born Archer Reeves) all of Lebanon, TN. Cody & Michelle Sharrock (Cayden, Mayleigh, & Raelyn Sharrock) of McMinnville, TN.
