Robert “Bobby” Houston Stansberry obituary

Mr. Robert “Bobby” Houston Stansberry, age 79, of Smithville, TN passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020. He was born in Corbin, KY on Monday, November 11, 1940 to the late Bob and Irene Rowlett Stansberry. Bobby was a member of the Whitesburg, KY Volunteer Fire Department and a proud Mason and member of the Oleika Shrine Club.

Bobby was a second generation business owner and operator of Bob Stansberry and Sons Meat Co. in Whitesburg assuming management duties after his parents retired. The business evolved into a trucking company in 1980 and had several trucks operating under B.S.S. Trucking. Bobby assumed the role of owner-operator and drove as well as managed the business. He was a safe and courteous driver logging and estimated 6 million accident and ticket free miles during nearly 60 years of driving and retired in 2010.

Bobby didn’t have traditional hobbies, but chose to use his free time being Pop and Papaw to his family and sitting on his carport telling stories to anyone who would listen. He leaves behind many lifelong friends, including the Greene family and his beloved W.H.S. Class of 1958 classmates.

Bobby is survived by his sweetheart and best friend of 56 years, Charlotte Senters Stansberry; three children, Jimmy Stansberry and his wife Lisa, Angie Kemp and her husband Bill, and Billy Stansberry and his wife Melanie; three grandchildren, Vivian Stansberry and her fiancée Elaine, Jessica Preston and her husband Daniel, and Kristopher Stansberry; two great-grandchildren, Remi and Evan; brother, Tommy Stansberry and his wife Billie of Whitesburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companion, Violet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry W. Stansberry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
