Rutherford County Area Habitat Celebrates Building 200 Houses in Rutherford County

Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) is excited to celebrate having built 200 affordable houses in Rutherford County with an event at the Legacy Pointe Subdivision in Murfreesboro on Thursday, December 19, 2024, 10am – 11am. The event includes the House Dedication and Ribbon Cutting for House #200, which was sponsored by Nissan USA, as well as the celebration of all 200 affordable homes that RCHFH has built in Rutherford County since being founded in 1989.

Speakers at the event include many Community Leaders including First Baptist Church Pastor James McCarroll, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, Ole South Properties Owner/Founder John Floyd, Rutherford County Commissioner Robert Peay, Mark Lee from SEC. Inc., and Chad Hart from Republic Bank. The 200 Celebration and House Dedication will be at 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., and folks will be invited to tour the home and have a boxed lunch afterward.

House #200 was built by Future Homeowner Chanelle along with over 100 volunteers from the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant. Chanelle, like all Habitat Homeowners, completed 50 hours of Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education, as well as 350 hours of partnership equity, working on the construction of her house as well as others at Legacy Pointe. Through the Habitat mortgage program, she will not pay more than 30 % of her monthly income on housing, leaving more money for other family needs. The impact of homeownership on many Habitat homeowners includes better health, better work attendance and career advancements, more disposable income, and children often see their grades and attendance improve.

RCHFH is celebrating their 35th Anniversary, having been founded in Rutherford County in August of 1989 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Since then, the affiliate has built 200 houses in LaVergne, Smyrna and Murfreesboro. RCHFH developed the 18-acre affordable housing community called Legacy Pointe in Murfreesboro in 2019 and has since built 34 homes there. The development will eventually have 76 homes and families.
