Rutherford County Schools, Distance-learning update

You have received a few messages from us today with updates about various schools moving to distance-learning for a few days. We have just added two additional schools (Rockvale Middle and Oakland High), but for clarity, I want to summarize the schools we have on distance-learning currently.

Parents have been notified throughout the day as these changes became necessary.

Currently, we have six schools — out of 49 schools — who have moved completely to distance learning temporarily to allow time for some of their employees and students to complete their quarantine periods. I will list those below.

Also, we want to dispel one rumor that we are planning to move all schools to distance-learning until after winter break. This is not true. We plan to continue operating schools on a hybrid model — using both distance-learning and in-person classes. We will move a school to all distance-learning for temporary period, if it becomes necessary because of staff and student quarantines.

We are also notifying all RCS parents about the new CDC quarantine guidelines that the state announced today to school districts. These guidelines will allow for shorter quarantines for some, depending on the circumstances.

Here are the schools we have on all distance-learning temporarily:

Dec. 3-4 (reopening Monday, Dec. 7):

• Oakland High School
• Riverdale High School
• Rockvale Middle School
• Rockvale Elementary School
• Lascassas Elementary School

Dec. 3-11 (Reopening Monday, Dec. 14):

• Siegel High School
