SCAN Members Receive Alert Buttons from Villages Donation

Hazel Bowers of the Sheriff’s Senior Citizens Awareness Network received the first free SCAN alert button.

Bowers, who is on a fixed income, was paying about $800 annually for an alert button. The new button does not require a fee.

The buttons worn around the neck will allow seniors who experience an emergency to simply press the button to call 911 for help.

SCAN used a $1,000 donation from the Villages Senior Living Community Christmas fund-raiser to buy several buttons.

SCAN is a program operated by trained volunteers who check on the welfare of senior citizens on a regular basis. They deliver food and conduct home visits.

People interested in volunteering or registering for SCAN may contact SCAN Coordinator E.T. Guice at 615-904-3139.
