Seven named to Murfreesboro Soccer Club Board of Directors; Board expansion underway as programming grows

Seven Murfreesboro-area residents have been named to the Murfreesboro Soccer Club (MSC) Board of Directors, joining 14 board members already in place. The new board members are Melissa Alford, Sharon Colbert-Sanders, George Conlin, Ralph Krisher, Clint Teasley, Stephen Vorhees and Kathlene Young. Each will serve a three-year term on the nonprofit board and will have specific responsibilities during their board tenure.

“We’re very excited to welcome these committed community leaders to the Murfreesboro Soccer Club Board,” said MSC President Bryan Kleparek. “Our work continues to grow as we add new services and new programming for the community. In addition to expanding our recreational soccer and competitive soccer programs, this year we launched TOPSoccer, a free program for children with special needs. Our board is a working board, and each member is assigned to a specific task or area of responsibility.”

About Melissa Alford: Melissa Alford is a local professional who has lived in Murfreesboro since 1997 and whose children both played soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club. Before being named to the MSC Board, she volunteered for MSC. She also serves on the Communications Board of Directors at Western Kentucky University. “I like what the club stands for and how the club approaches the development of players,” she said. “As a board member, my goal is to strengthen the club and help the community know what the club offers in regard to growth and development of the players.”

About Sharon Colbert-Sanders: Sharon Colbert-Sanders is a self-employed professional and owner of Colbert-Sanders Dream Vacations. She is new to the area, and her grandson plays soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club; her son coaches his team. She has volunteered in many roles for MSC, including team manager, concession stand coordinator, team uniforms, team travel and team mom. “I really want to be involved in helping grow the sport,” she says. “My experience with MSC before joining the board has been great. I look forward to working with this organization.”

About George Conlin: George Conlin is a sales professional and played soccer himself throughout his entire life into college. He plays in the MSC Adult League, and his three children have all played soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club, and Conlin has coached multiple teams and served as team treasurer. “I want kids to be taught the game of soccer so they will enjoy playing and watching soccer for the rest of their lives,” he said.

About Ralph Krisher: Ralph Krisher is a local professional whose daughter plays soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club. Before joining the Board, he volunteered as a coach for multiple teams. “Organizations work only if people work,” he said. “I would like to help with MSC’s participation growth, both by players and sponsors.”

About Clint Teasley: Clint Teasley is a self-employed insurance agent with Farm Bureau of Tennessee and his son plays soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club. He has lived in Rutherford County for more than 20 years. “MSC is the leader and above and beyond other youth soccer programs around,” he said. “I am honored to be a part of this board and for my son to learn and benefit from what MSC has to offer.”

About Stephen Voorhees: Stephen Voorhees is vice president of finance for an area company, and is new to the middle Tennessee area, having moved here from Atlanta. His son plays on the U16 Select team and Voorhees is the team manager. “I am passionate about youth soccer, have played, coached and refereed soccer and I believe the lessons learned on the pitch translate well into adult life. I think the club is a great asset to the area.”

About Kathelene Young: Kathelene Young is a local professional whose daughter plays soccer with Murfreesboro Soccer Club. She has volunteered as a soccer coach before joining the Board. “I’ve seen MSC grow by leaps and bounds, and as my kids are now older, I have the ability to help with events,” she said.
