Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Enjoy Christmas Dinner

Members of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association gather to celebrate Christmas together.

The Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is a course where residents learn about the operations of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens who are interested may apply for the next free class beginning in January. The classes include ride-alongs, SWAT demonstrations and tours.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh thanked the alumni who volunteer to support the Sheriff’s Office.

Some of their duties include:

• Operating the Senior Citizen Awareness Network who visit senior citizens to care for their safety.
• Sponsoring the Shop with a Sheriff event to take homeless children shopping.
• Counting drivers who travel through DUI roadblocks.
• Directing traffic and parking cars at community Sheriff’s Office events such as Trunk or Treat at Halloween.
• Cooking out for employees during the year.
