Siegel Model UN Wins at SHSMUN

This past weekend, Siegel Model UN was the only Rutherford County School competing at the Southeastern High School Model United Nations Conference (SHSMUN) against 650 students representing over 70 country delegations.

Siegel’s Belgium delegation was awarded 3rd Best Delegation at the conference. Included in this group are Juliana Cote, Grace Puzzo, Jacob Lockyear, Emily Bruce, George Nielsen, Eric Vaughan, Don Kim, Kyu Kim, Elizabeth Baum, Gwyneth Millican, Julia Ewers, and Kalani Cing.

Don Kim (Belgium), serving on the International Telecommunications Union Committee, and Emily Bruce (Belgium), serving on the Economic and Financial Committee, won Best Delegate distinctions. Both Kim and Bruce are eligible to attend the prestigious National High School United Nations Conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York City in March.

Three students won Honorable Mentions within their respective committees: Audrey Chase (Singapore) with United Nations Organization on Drugs and Crime, Elizabeth Baum (Belgium) with the United Nations Environmental Program, and Kyu Kim (Belgium) with the United Nations Development Program.

This is the second straight year that Siegel will have student representatives in New York City.
