Town of Smyrna Continues to Take Proactive Measures Regarding COVID-19

Based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the Tennessee Department of Health, The Town of Smyrna continues to monitor and adjust protocols and public meeting schedules.

“The safety of our citizens and personnel continues to guide our decision-making processes,” explained Brian D. Hercules, Town Manager. “We continue to follow CDC guidelines and recommendations. The Town has updated our list of suspended events and meetings, and our protocol for essential operations to conduct business and deliver services to our citizens.”

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court issued an Order stating all Tennessee courts will remain open during the coronavirus outbreak, but suspending all in-person judicial proceedings through March 31, 2020, with limited exceptions. The Town of Smyrna Court Clerk’s Office and the Judicial Office have attempted to contact all victims, attorneys, and defendants with pending court cases for this time period to advise them of reset dates and times.

Parties are encouraged to call the Smyrna Town Court Clerk’s Office, 615-355-5739, for information regarding their case or appearance requirements and 615-267-5570 for Probation Office questions. If a party fails to contact the clerk and appears at the Court on their designated date and time, they will be informed of a reset date. The Judicial Office, Town Court Clerk’s Office, and the Probation Office will remain open in a limited capacity.

Smyrna Fire Chief Bill Culbertson and Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold are following CDC guidelines with enhanced cleaning and enhanced use of personal protective equipment. Smyrna Fire Department has suspended station tours and visits, while Smyrna Police Department has suspended the 2020 Citizens’ Police Academy.

The Town’s meetings that are judicial, require a vote, and are essential to conducting business will be held. Those meetings include Beer Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and Town Council (excluding Town Council Workshop). We encourage any citizen that does not have an item on the agenda to consider watching this meeting on our local channel 3, via Facebook (@townofsmyrnatn), or YouTube (search Town of Smyrna).

While Town Hall remains open, citizens may choose to pay their utilities online, by phone, or by mail. To pay online, visit our website at www.townofsmyrna.org; call 615-355-5705 to pay by phone; mail your check to Town of Smyrna, 315 South Lowry Street, Smyrna, Tennessee, 37167, to pay by mail.
