Smyrna’s Jeff Kuss Top Gun Night Run Returns September 11

The Town of Smyrna is preparing for the seventh annual Jeff Kuss Top Gun Night Run on Friday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m.

We caught up with Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed at the Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial to talk about this year’s event, which will also include a special tribute recognizing the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Around 500 participants have already registered, and space is filling up. The race welcomes serious runners, walkers, families and participants of all ages. First responders and military members will also be recognized with special shirts, and military personnel will place medals around participants as they finish the race.

The evening will include live music from Rubik’s Groove, free grilled cheese from Middle Tennessee Electric, free donuts, food vendors and other family-friendly activities. Pets are also welcome as long as they are kept on a leash.

Registration is $50, with proceeds helping maintain the Captain Jeff Kuss Memorial and support scholarships for local students. The memorial costs more than $50,000 annually to maintain, and repainting the aircraft alone can cost approximately $56,000.

Even if you are not participating in the race, the community is invited to attend the special 9/11 presentation and enjoy the evening.
