Solid Waste Department employee David Diehl receives STARS Award

Solid Waste Department Driver David Diehl has been named STARS award recipient for February 2019. Diehl was honored prior to Thursday’s (March 7) meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council.

On Monday, February 25, 2019, David Diehl compassionately took time out from his busy garbage collection route to assist a lady wandering the street and needing assistance. The woman was disoriented due to dementia. He stayed with the woman until help arrived. Diehl is another example of representing the City in a positive light, exhibiting the core values and creating a better quality of life for citizens.

Diehl has served the City and the Solid Waste Department since November 2004. He was first hired as a Light Equipment Operator before being promoted to Driver in 2007.

Vice Mayor Madelyn Scales Harris recognized Diehl during the March 7, 2019, meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council with the STARS award for Outstanding Performance: “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.”

Human Resources Director Pam Russell joined Vice Mayor Scales Harris in presenting the STARS award to Diehl. In the nomination, the following narrative explanation was provided by City employee Angie Bounds:

“Mr. Diehl was on his garbage route on February 25, 2019. He noticed a lady wandering around on [the] street. He stopped and asked if she needed help. Come to find out, the lady suffers from dementia and had wondered a block away from her home, with no knowledge as to whom, what or where she was. Mr. Diehl stayed with [the] lady, comforting her until supervisors could show up to take over. David Diehl showed our City the kind of compassion and respect we all need. Praise to David for being an observant and caring person.”

The STARS Service Excellence program is intended to recognize outstanding employees who embody the city’s standards for service excellence and exemplify the city’s core service values. The purpose of the STARS award is to recognize and reward those employees who go above and beyond their normal job duties in providing outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.

Congratulations to David Diehl for being named recipient of the STARS Award for Outstanding Performance.
