State Farm Presents $15,000 Grant to Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity

Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) is excited to receive a $15,000 grant from State Farm Insurance. Funds will be used to support the Spring Builds of affordable housing and homeowner education for families in Rutherford County.

“State Farm has always been there for us,” states RCHFH Executive Director Terri Shultz. “And now more than ever their support is appreciated as we meet the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic.”

The Spring Builds will include three new houses in the Legacy Pointe subdivision in Murfreesboro. The first four houses there are currently being completed and four new families will realize their dream of homeownership and move into their own home soon. All of the Habitat Future homeowners complete a 30-week Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education Program and 300-400 hours of sweat equity. Applications for the next Habitat Homeowner class will open February 1 – March 1 and Future Homeowners will attend the classes online during the pandemic restrictions. They will be eligible to realize their dream of homeownership with a Habitat house in the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 builds.

“Habitat for Humanity is committed to providing safe, affordable housing to those in need,” said Judy McConkey, State Farm Corporate Responsibility Analyst. “Part of State Farm’s mission is to help people realize their dreams, which is why we are proud to provide this financial support to help families attain their dreams of homeownership.”

While there are very limited opportunities for volunteering at RCHFH’s Legacy Pointe construction site, due to Covid-19, State Farm agents will continue to support and be engaged virtually with RCHFH, including promoting donations of household goods to the Habitat ReStore. Proceeds from the ReStore help fund the entire mission of RCHFH, from homeowner education to the construction of affordable housing. A “Covid safe distancing” Drive-In ReStore Donation Day event is planned for March.

Applications for the new Future Homeowner Class for potential homes in Legacy Pointe are available through March 1. Homeowner Education Program Information: http://www.rchfh.org/homeownership/.
