Stop the Summer Slide

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties will host its Stop the Summer Slide event, which provides new and gently used books to students in the local community. Research shows that children in low-income households fall behind by an average of two to three months in reading during the summer, which is known as the “summer slide.” Join United Way in fighting the summer slide by collecting books for children in pre-K-6th grade, chapter books, or dual language books. Books can be dropped off at several designated collection sites throughout the community. Participants can also make donations on United Way’s website or purchase books through our Amazon Wish List. Books will be sorted during the Stop the Summer Slide Sort-a-Thon.
