Teen charged with attempted murder after shooting at Murfreesboro hotel
Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) detectives have arrested and charged an 18-year-old with attempted second-degree murder and several other felonies following a shooting at a Murfreesboro Extended Stay hotel on Friday, August 7.
Kendall Luckey faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of reckless endangerment involving a deadly weapon, one count of employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, and one count of felony possession of Schedule VI drugs. Luckey and his acquaintance both sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities took Luckey into custody on Aug. 9 after he was discharged from the hospital.
The investigation revealed that Luckey allegedly brandished a handgun and fired at two men entering the hotel. One of those men returned fire, hitting Luckey and the man with him. The shooter and the man with him ran next door to the parking lot of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), where police detained them.
No other charges have been filed at this time since the shooter may have acted in self-defense. However, the investigation is ongoing, and future charges could be considered once the case is presented to a Grand Jury.
Luckey is currently held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $655,000 bond. A hearing is set for September 14 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
