The Little Sisters of Hoboken are Coming

The Little Sisters of Hoboken are coming to The Center for the Arts this Friday for their production of Nunsense, May 11-27. This heavenly musical comedy features nuns, hungry for the spotlight, who find themselves in a bit of a pickle: their cook, Sister Julia – Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of their fellow sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. What’s a Sister to do? Put on a variety show full of wacky, yet surprisingly heartfelt performances! This production is rated PG-13.

The Center for the Arts had a highly successful season this year. Nunsense is sure to be a side-splittingly divine addition to CFTA’s roster of shows. This small, but dynamic cast of five, features some very familiar faces.

Nunsense director, Matt Smith, shares, “When we selected this show, I insisted upon casting the show with members of the community. After all, what is community theatre but using the talents of the local area?” He continues, “This cast is a family, both figuratively and literally. The Dinkins Family has been pillars of this community for years.”

Nancy Stewart (Mother Superior) is a 42-year veteran of community theater and a former teacher at Riverdale High School. Angela Tipps (Sister Hubert) teaches music at MTSU, is the Organist/Director at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and conducts the Nashville Chamber Singers. Mary Ellen Smith (Sister Robert Anne) is a 35-year veteran of community theater who stays busy teaching and directing theatre at Riverdale High School with her husband, Matt Smith, the director of this production of Nunsense. Shannon Jernigan (Sister Mary Leo) has danced for more than 22 years has choreographed over 15 musicals in the community, and is a full-time elementary school teacher. Virginia Tipps (Sister Amnesia) is a junior at MTSU majoring in theatre and has worked as stage manager for two recent productions at MTSU.

Nunsense is sponsored by Middle Tennessee State University. Groups of 10 or more receive a $2 discount per ticket.
