Murfreesboro Water Resources Hosting Rain Barrel Workshops

The Murfreesboro Water Resources Stormwater Department will host Rain Barrel Workshops June 24th and Aug 23, 2023, at the Water Resources Operations Facility located at 1725 South Church in Murfreesboro. The workshops educate homeowners about the value of collecting rainwater for home gardening and the environment.

Perez Brown, Murfreesboro Water Quality Specialist, who coordinates community outreach programming for the Stormwater Department, will facilitate the workshops. Perez conducts G.I.S. surveys and monitors the City’s stormwater system by mapping the water and sewer infrastructure.

“Rain barrels are important because they help homeowners and businesses direct rainwater to gardens and plants reducing sediment and pollution in our streams and rivers,” said Brown. “Using barrels to collect rainwater and dispersing in gardens also helps homeowners save money on water bills.”

Homeowners who attend the Rain Barrel Workshops will have the opportunity to purchase rain barrels as part of the workshop for $50.00. The barrels include caps with filters that collect rainwater without capturing dirt and debris. The barrels also have taps to release the water in buckets or pitchers for transferring to the garden.

The Murfreesboro Stormwater Department scheduled the workshops for June 24 from 11 a.m.-Noon and August 23 from 5:30 pm.-6:30 p.m. at the Murfreesboro Water Resources Department Operations Facility, 1725 S. Church Street. The workshops are $10.00 or $50.00 for the workshop and rain barrel https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/2497/Rain-Barrel-Workshop
