Wilson Co. Man Charged with One Mile Lane Murder

A 47-year- old Wilson County man is charged with first-degree murder less than 30 hours after an acquaintance was found near death at his One Mile Lane home 2 p.m. Friday, Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh says.

David Michael Oeser of 3630 Beasley’s Bend Road, Lebanon, is held in lieu of $1 million bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Oeser is set for preliminary hearing April 27 in General Sessions Court for the murder of James Burney Whitehead.

A friend found Whitehead in his home shortly before 2 p.m. Friday and called 911. Patrol deputies arrived at the home minutes later, Fitzhugh said, and Whitehead was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m. “I can’t thank the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office enough for their tremendous assistance in locating Whitehead,” Fitzhugh said, “Our patrol officers and detectives worked together in their usual efficient manner for a quick resolution to this crime.”

An autopsy to determine cause of death will occur; manner of death has been ruled as homicide. This is an active and ongoing investigation and RCSO will not make further statements.

We do ask anyone with information about events leading to Whitehead’s death to call case officer Detective Kyle Norrod at 615-904-3043. Media should call Rutherford County General Sessions Criminal Court Clerk’s office at 615-898- 7831, to learn if the preliminary hearing is changed.
