29 House Fires in Rutherford County Caused By Hazardous Waste
Rutherford County Fire and Rescue has reported that 29 house fires within Rutherford County have been caused by hazardous waste, so far this year.
RCFD urges residents to dispose of household hazardous waste properly to prevent more potential fires.
“Hazardous waste is a danger to your family, animals, and property. It can affect you mentally and physically. Rutherford County Fire and Rescue recommends getting hazardous waste out of the home“, said Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Chief, Larry Farley.
Rutherford County hosts 2 household hazardous waste collections a year through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
The next local collection date is on Nov. 4th from 8:00am to 12:00pm on 4765 Florence Rd. in Murfreesboro, TN. Residents from surrounding counties can also attend this collection event.
In the United States, the treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste are regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Hazardous waste poses substantial or potential threats to public health or the environment.
