Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Goes Red For Stroke Month

Saint Thomas Rutherford Goes Red

Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford hospital has lit the hospital red for the month of May to honor stroke month. According to the American Heart Association, someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds.

Throughout May, the hospital’s stroke team will be recognizing National Stroke Month with different events to highlight the programs offered at the hospital and educate community members on warning signs and risk factor reduction.

“Learning the warning signs and preventable measures are the best way to avoid strokes,” said Gordon Ferguson, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford. “It was one year ago when our hospital became the first healthcare facility in Rutherford County to offer a potentially life-saving stroke intervention called thrombectomy. Offering this important intervention closer to home has saved lives and reduced a patient’s likelihood of acquiring a life-altering disability due to an acute stroke. We will continue to celebrate this month and raise awareness for such an important cause.”
