Blackman High wins ‘No Trash November’ donation
School submitted more student video entries than any other in the state
Blackman High School’s creative PSA-style videos have won the school a “beautification donation” from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Of 55 entries received statewide, Blackman students contributed the most videos to the competition.
“While most children and young adults know that littering is wrong, we aim to educate them on the full extent of litter’s impact on roadway safety, our waterways, and on wildlife,” said Denise Baker, transportation program supervisor with the TDOT Highway Beautification Office.
The theme of the video submissions was “Why it’s important to keep Tennessee liter free.”
The contest and litter campaign were organized by Keep Tennessee Beautiful and Adopt-A-Highway groups. Through a combined effort the campaign has cleared more than 46,000 pounds of litter across Tennessee.
“The student video contest allowed us to engage middle and high school students during the first-ever No Trash November initiative,” Baker explained. “There were so many creative submissions making it a challenge for our judges to select only one top video for high school and one for middle school.”
Blackman High will receive a $500 beautification donation to recognize students’ creativity, environmentalism and involvement in the Tennessee liter reduction efforts.
