Car burglary ends in gunfire in Murfreesboro; 1 injured
It was a terrifying morning for some Murfreesboro residents when what started as a car burglary ended in gunfire after the car owner’s boyfriend went after the suspects.
Now resident at the apartment complex where it happened are on edge.
For Christiana Webb Wednesday morning has been an emotional roller coaster.
“All this stuff for nothing,” Web said. “I don’t understand why did happened.”
“This man bashed my window in and shot my boyfriend for a $6 Target card in my wallet,” she told News 2.Her boyfriend Montrez Buchanan of six years was shot twice in the parking lot of the Tremont Apartments after confronting two suspects who busted out the window of Webb’s car and stole two wallets.
It all started a little after 2 a.m. when the Montrez’ brother woke up to the sound of shattering glass.
The brothers ran outside and Montrez gave chase, that’s when he was shot in the leg and hand. Webb said he will possibly lose a few fingers.
“I don’t deserve this and Montrez doesn’t deserve this and why can’t we be safe when my car is parked right by the window of my apartment,” Webb said.
Webb is concerned police didn’t believe them at first and allegedly made accusations of their own.Stray bullets were flying everywhere, one made a perfect hole in the Tremont Apartments sign, while another one hit a building next to the pool.
“And another police officer walked up to me and said we’re assuming Rodney shot his brother, Rodney who was asleep in the house with us,” Webb said.
Neighbor Desiree Welcome has a daughter and says thankful no one else was shot.
“It could have came through anybody’s building and to see that it’s alarming,” she said. “It leaves me with some concern for the safety of my child, especially being it so close by, I could imagine if something came through the window.”
Webb is praying Montrez recovers and is hoping police track down the suspects responsible.
“Any of us could have gotten shot that night I mean anything could have happen,” Webb said. “Montrez could not be here right now, and you know what there is no guarantee he will be.”
The victim’s girlfriend said he has undergone two surgeries and is recovering.
Murfreesboro police are investigating, so far the two suspects haven’t been caught.
