City earns Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Jobe Presents Audit to Murfreesboro City Council

For the twenty fourth consecutive year the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Murfreesboro with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (COA). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The COA is for the City’s annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. Auditors presented the most recent fiscal year report ending June 30, 2022, during the Feb. 16, 2023, City Council meeting. The Financial Report has been submitted to GFOA for review. The City anticipates to again receive the COA for the FY 2022 report once the GFOA review is completed. The 2022 Financial Report is available at https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/134/Financial-Reports.

“I commend Finance Director Jennifer Brown and the great team in the Finance Department for its financial reporting, not just with the audit report but all of the City financial reports,” said City Manager Craig Tindall. “Transparent financial reporting is critical to maintain public trust and the City’s Finance Department does a superior job in this respect.”

Employees in the City of Murfreesboro Finance and Tax Department strive each year for excellence in accounting and financial reporting. The annual GFOA recognition certifies that the City of Murfreesboro’s financial audit is prepared in accordance with guidelines recognized by nationally established standards.

“We are pleased to once again receive this recognition for the twenty fourth consecutive year from GFOA,” said Finance Director and City Recorder/Treasurer Jennifer Brown. “I credit our staff in the Finance Department and our auditing firm Jobe, Hastings & Associates CPAs for the consistent yearly work in attaining this significant achievement.”
