City Offices Closing in Observance of Memorial Day Holiday May 27
In observance of Memorial Day, City Hall and most other City offices will be closed Monday, May 27, 2024. Some recreational facilities will be closed Memorial Day. Murfreesboro Transit, the City’s public transportation system, will not run on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.
The St. Clair Street Senior Center will be closed May 27.
The Solid Waste Department will be closed Monday, May 27. There will be no garbage pick-up on Memorial Day. Monday’s garbage pick-up will be Tuesday, May 28, and Tuesday’s garbage pick-up will be Wednesday May 29.

Golf: OId Fort Golf Course is closed for greens renovations but the clubhouse is open. The 6-hole Bloomfield Links course is open for business. Reopening Old Fort Golf Club is anticipated in September. To contact the Golf Department, visit https://www.oldfortgolfclub.com/.

Boro Beach, 2310 Memorial Boulevard, officially opens the 2024 Season, Saturday, May 25, 2024, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Boro Beach will be hosting “Memorial Day Madness” from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday May 27, featuring swimming, music, games, and prizes.

Stones River National Battlefield and Cemetery will host a series of events to commemorate Memorial Day in 2024. On Saturday May 25, 2024, at 10 am, scouting and other youth groups are invited to place flags on more than 7,000 headstones in Stones River National Cemetery. Participants should plan to arrive by 9:30 am. Please carpool if possible. Parking will be adjacent to the park visitor center.
Sunday May 26, 2024, will feature our Memorial Day ceremony at 1:30 pm. Parking will be near the park visitor center. The Memorial Day ceremony will take place at the national cemetery rostrum.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.
City Hall business will resume regular hours of operation, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 28.
