City Recognizes Solid Waste Employee Ralph King with STARS Award
Ralph King, a Driver for the Murfreesboro Sold Waste Department, has been named STARS award recipient for August 2017. Mayor Shane McFarland recognized King during the Aug. 31, 2017, meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council with the STARS award for Outstanding Performance: “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.”
King received two nominations. One nomination stemmed from King’s on-duty response to an overturned garbage container that had strewn garbage in the street on Empire Blvd. The second nomination was from an elderly citizen who had fallen in his front yard. King is another example of representing the City in a positive light, exhibiting the core values and creating a better quality of life for citizens.
King has served 30 years with the Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department since June 1987, first as a Laborer before becoming a Driver in February of 1994. He was recognized for his responses while performing his duties in December 2015 and again in July 2016. King was nominated by Ron Simpson and Raymond Harrell and recognized for “representing the city in a positive light, exhibiting the core values and “creating a better quality of life.” King was nominated by citizen Ron Simpson in the following narrative:
“I (Murfreesboro resident) observed Mr. King exhibit core value of an employee who wants a cleaner and better to City in which to live. Due to the excessive wind the previous night, there was an over-turned Garbage Container [two] doors down from my home. I just happened to be standing at the corner of my home and observed Mr. King get out of his out truck and spend what was probably five minutes picking up every piece of trash and placed in container. I was so impressed I stopped his truck and introduced myself as he stopped to service my home. I told him he was a great representative of the City and his supervisor should be extremely proud. He made me proud!.”
“Ralph King is a conscientious City employee and citizen who cares about doing the right thing and helping people,” said Murfreesboro Solid Waste Director Joey Smith. “As an example of exhibiting service excellence and core values, it gives me great pleasure to recognize King as a STARS employee.”
The STARS Service Excellence program is intended to recognize outstanding employees who embody the city’s standards for service excellence and exemplify the city’s core service
values. The purpose of the STARS award is to recognize and reward those employees who go
above and beyond their normal job duties in providing outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
Congratulations to Solid Waste employee Ralph King for being named the recipient of the STARS Award for Outstanding Performance.
