Douglas Brooks, Jr. obituary

Douglas MacArthur Brooks, Jr., age 53, was born June 13, 1964 in Middlesboro, KY. He was the son of the late Douglas MacArthur Brooks, Sr., and Janice Sue Brooks. Doug passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Doug was most recently employed by the Rutherford County Highway Department.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Brooks; Stepson, Thomas Davidson (Brittany Brandon); sister, Donna Kaye Brooks; niece, Mandie Marie Stavely (Alex Wilkerson); great nephew, Hunter James, and great niece, Brooklyn Kaye.

He was loved, cherished and adored by his wife’s family. His brother in law Billy Rowland (Sue) was more of a father figure, poker buddy, golf playing mentor, and best friend. The two were inseparable. Mother in law Mildred Rowland, Sisters in law Shirley (Lance) Ikard and Helen (Greg) Haislip all loved him like a brother. His brother in law Bobby Rowland (now deceased) held a special place in his heart. In this adopted family he also had nieces and nephews who cherished their own personal relations. He has a host of cousins residing in Kentucky and North Carolina.

There are too many friends to mention individually, but childhood friends Michael Iovine, and John Dooley were still a big part of his life.

Douglas was an Army Ranger with the elite 82nd Airborne Division, stationed in Fort Bragg, NC. He served in many 3rd world countries and assisted in missions that took him around the world and back.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, member of the American Legion, VFW and a devout Catholic Christian who loved God, Family, and America more than anything.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel Saturday, March 31, 2018. Visitation with the family will be from 4pm to 6pm with the service to follow at 6pm, with the Rev. Tony Woodall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Doug may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org, or by calling 1-877-832-6997. Doug would be overjoyed if you extended an unexpected act of kindness while thinking of him.
