Driver charged in road rage situation
An 18-year-old driver who accidentally cut off a second driver in traffic “feared for her life” when the second driver allegedly threatened her with a handgun, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputy reported.
The driver flagged down Deputy Victoria Capps about 3:04 p.m., Tuesday on Northwest Broad Street near Interstate 840 to report the alleged assault. The driver shared a photo of the black Nissan truck driven by the second driver.
Dispatchers quickly radioed the description of the truck to deputies. Within minutes, Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Danckwerth stopped the second driver on Veterans Parkway.
Capps charged driver Paul Jacob Marx, 41, of Westlawn Boulevard with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
The 18-year-old and a 17-year-old passenger reported she was driving near Lee Victory Parkway and Almaville Road when she cut off the second driver who swerved and drove close to her vehicle.
He leaned forward, held the handgun up and appeared to be angry, Capps reported.
She “felt threatened and feared for her life considering someone would brandish a firearm over a traffic altercation,” Capps reported.
Danckwerth brought Marx to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he was charged and booked. He was released on $20,000 bond. A hearing is set July 21 in General Sessions Court.
