Drug Take Back Day Rutherford County
Prevention Coalition for Success announces two medication take back events on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford and at the North Rutherford Family YMCA. “Through these drug take back events, we hope to raise awareness of the importance of properly disposing of unused medication.” says Sarah Murfree, Prevention Coalition for Success Executive Director. “We appreciate our community partners including the Rutherford County Sheriff Office, Murfreesboro Police Department, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, the North Rutherford Family YMCA, and our volunteers for their support of these events.”

Where: Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, 1700 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro, TN 37129 by the main entrance of the hospital.

Why: Drug take back events serve three important public health and safety purposes. Proper disposal of unused medication prevents diversion of prescription drugs with potential for abuse. According to the DEA, non-medical use of prescriptions drugs is the second most common form of drug abuse in the United States. Secondly, unused medication in the home can pose a risk to young children who might accidently ingest the medication. Lastly, properly disposing of unused medication protects our environment.
