Hike with Jane: Fall Wildflowers at Barfield Crescent Park
Late September is when the cedar glades around Barfield Crescent Park put on their fall show, and the Wilderness Station runs a naturalist-led walk to catch it. An hour on the trail, learning what is blooming and why this particular patch of Middle Tennessee grows things that grow almost nowhere else.
It is an easy pace and a short loop, which makes it workable for grade-schoolers and for anyone who would rather identify plants than cover distance. Bring a phone or a notebook if your kids like to keep a list.
