Fatal crash near 2020 S. Church Street

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at approximately 9:10 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a crash near 2020 S. Church Street (Hwy 231S). The crash involved a 2018 Honda Fit and a pedestrian. The investigation revealed the Honda was traveling south S. Church Street and struck the pedestrian who was crossing the street.

The pedestrian was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Services who transported him to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for LifeFlight transfer to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased at Vanderbilt a short time later.

The pedestrian is identified as Douglas Burton (dob 10/19/1978) of Murfreesboro, TN. The driver of the Honda Fit is identified as John Woodall (dob 12/11/1945) of Lebanon, TN. He was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time, however the investigation is ongoing.
