Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) Chief Mark Foulks announces the promotion of two long-time employees.

Mark McCluskey has been promoted to assistant chief of operations. McCluskey began his career with MFRD in February 1985 as a fire fighter and moved up through the ranks as a captain and to battalion chief of special operations. McCluskey has attended various leadership courses. He is a certified fire officer I and II, fire instructor I and II, fire inspector, and incident safety officer. He holds certifications in hazardous materials, confined space, rope rescue technician and swift water rescue. He is also a certified advanced emergency medical technician.

“The various leadership courses I’ve taken over the years have prepared me for his new position,” McCluskey said. “As the city of Murfreesboro and our fire department continues to grow, I look forward to making sure we are offering the very best fire protection for our residents.”

Michael Keith has been promoted to battalion chief. Keith joined MFRD in December 2000 as a firefighter. He was promoted to engineer in 2005, and then to captain/shift instructor in 2013.

“My family and I are excited about this opportunity that I have been given,” Keith said. “I look forward to working with the team of battalion chiefs and doing my part to help the department grow.”

“We are proud of these two for their many accomplishments and dedication to MFRD and our city,” said Chief Mark Foulks. “These promotions will ensure our dedication in continuing to achieve the highest level of service to our community.”

McCluskey and his wife Wendi have been married 19 years. They have two children – Michael, an MTSU student, and Mary Faith, a Blackman High School senior. Mary Faith recently signed to play college softball at Southwest Tennessee.

Keith and his wife Jennifer, a nurse at Upper Cumberland ENT in Cookeville, have two children Blake, and Gracie. Blake is a Tennessee Tech graduate and Gracie is a sophomore at Upperman High School in Baxter. Keith enjoys hunting, camping, working in the yard, and on the farm.

McCluskey’s promotion became effective yesterday. Keith began serving in his new role this past Saturday.
