Firefighter suffers minor injuries after wall collapse during early morning fire at storage facility

A Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) firefighter suffered minor injuries at a fire of a storage facility after a wall collapsed and pinned two firefighters underneath early Saturday morning, July 4.

A cinder block wall collapsed outward and landed on the two firefighters. The firefighters were pulled from the fallen debris by the Captain and crew members aboard Ladder 1, with help from a Murfreesboro Police Department officer.

The fire was contained to one building and destroyed each of the units. Several vehicles parked near the burning building at Ideal Storage, 1020 Seals Way, were also damaged. The blaze started around 4:30 a.m.

Firefighters noticed heavy smoke and half of the building on fire when they arrived on the scene. Fire crews began extinguishing the fire using several Ladder trucks and an aggressive exterior attack by firefighters on the ground. Personnel with Ladder 1, 2, 4, and 6, Engine 3 and 9, Rescue 1 and 4, Battalion Chief 1 and 2, and Safety 1 assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the MFRD Fire Marshal’s office.
